Preparing for the Royal Commission into Disability Abuse

Disability service providers should start preparing for the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. The Royal Commission, established in April 2019, has released its Terms of Reference. These Terms of Reference establish what matters the Commission will be considering. For disability service providers who may be called to give evidence in the Commission, it is essential to begin preparing your internal governance, compliance and document systems for when you may be called.

Terms of Reference

The Terms of Reference are purposefully drafted in a manner that is broad and authorises the Commissioners to investigate a large number of matters. On its terms, the Royal Commission will not only focus on abuse, neglect and violence against people with disability, but ‘all aspects’ of quality and safety of services to people with disability.

What service providers need to do to prepare for the Commission
